Our Story
Geyer Rental Service was established in 1959 by Donald J. Geyer. Earlier that year, Don and his brother Lloyd were having drinks at a bar and decided that they each would open an equipment rental business. Lloyd got out of the industry a few years later.
Donny stayed in the game, and Geyer Rental Service continued to operate as a family owned business for over a half-century.
Don started Geyer Rental Service with fifteen hundred dollars. Equipment rental was a new industry and business slowly trickled in. One day all Don rented was a shovel and a screwdriver. To subsidize his income, Don worked the shop during the day and scrubbed floors in the evenings at Coborn’s -a local grocery store. Don’s wife Beverly would help work the counter and in the early days Beverly would also sew and sell doll clothes out of the business.
Over the decades Geyer Rental Service added several divisions to the company: a wedding and event division, a traffic control division, a portable sanitation division, a mini-storage division, and a land development division. Geyer Rental Service also added a few locations. When United Rentals was looking to expand into the area they wanted to acquire Geyer Rental Service but Don decided not to sell.
Throughout the years the Geyer family also owned/operated a deli, a couple of pizza places, a bison ranch/business, several working farms and an equipment rental business that ran under a different name.
